Swooning over Bridgerton

The decadence of the Bridgerton attire could not be further away from the loungewear we have (not so shamefully) become accustomed to in 2020. Yet this show has had so many of us swooning, not only over the Duke, but the lavishness of these magnificent costumes. In fact, according to Lyst reports, since the show was released on Christmas Day, online searches for corsets have gone up 123%! Though, personally, I can’t quite see myself swapping out my hoody for Prudence’s lung-crushing corset just yet.

However, the gowns are a whole new ball game! Daphne herself wore a total of 104 dresses over the 8 episodes, a particular favourite of mine being the delicate baby blue gown with the mesh sleeves, dotted with embroidered white flowers. Although we may not have the opportunity to bag ourselves a Duke during these times, several viewers have used this lockdown period to replicate the charm of these garments themselves in a challenging needlework endeavour.

Costume designer, Ellen Mirojnick, certainly seems to have taken the world by storm with her Regency-era designs with a modern twist. I feel like they have provided us with the vibrant decadence that we have been seriously lacking over the past year. So, what I want to know is, will we all be striding around in puff-sleeved silk ballgowns this summer? God, I hope so!
