The Brits 2021 offered a night of high-end glitz and glam, full of stars from music industry making bold statements in likes of Gucci and Vivienne Westwood. But it was Brit’s Rising Star Griff whose fashion-forward statement of sustainability made a great imprint on the red carpet on Tuesday night.

Upon arrival, the twenty year old singer was seen wearing Susan Fang’s air-ribbon sheer pastel dress with a magnificent fountain headpiece (an accessory which I am sure aided social distancing on the night!). The label’s pioneering ‘air-ribbon’ garments are created from a delicate balloon-like tulle material and are produced using a zero-waste method, thus highlighting the fact that style can be high-end glam as well as ethical.

However, it was during her performance that the musician really put her own stamp on the show, not only with her high energy rendition of her pop-hit Black Hole, but with the outfit she had crafted herself. Griff came onto stage looking chic in a pastel blue dress, made from several pieces of material that had been fixed together using silver metal hoops.

This was not the first time that the musician has been known to make her own performance outfits. In fact, when the twenty-year old featured on Vogue’s notorious Inside the Wardrobe series, she showed off her DIY pastel blue two-piece that she wore for her first ever headline show. This interview did not only demonstrate her talents as a seamstress, but also her sustainable shopping habits, with one of her top five wardrobe staples being a heavy-lace wedding dress that she claims to have bought in thrift shop in LA for just $1.

Although the multi-talented young singer, has only emerged recently in the industry, Griff has most definitely hit the ground running in the worlds of both music and fashion. Her progressive approach towards fashion demonstrates the fact that style and sustainability can go hand in hand.
